Sutta Nipāta · Source readers

Summary: The Sutta Nipāta ("Collection of Discourses") is the fifth book of the khuddaka nikaya. In the local corpus it is currently available as a raw BJT Pali/Sinhala source reader, preserving the native tipitaka.lk page-entry segmentation rather than a fully edited wiki text rendering.

Overview

The Sutta Nipāta is a collection of mostly verse discourses within the Khuddaka Nikāya. The reviewed BJT raw source presents the book in five vaggas: Uragavagga, Cūḷavagga, Mahāvagga, Aṭṭhakavagga, and Pārāyanavagga.

The raw source opens with the Uragasutta, whose refrain compares the abandoning of the near and far shore to a serpent shedding old skin. It closes with the Pārāyanavagga and a final colophon marking the completion of the Sutta Nipāta.

This page is an overview page only. The raw BJT Pali source and Sinhala translation have been ingested and reviewed, but a full text-page presentation with per-sutta headings, normalized numbering, cross-references, and supporting pages is deferred.

Source reader

The current raw reader uses BJT page-entry identifiers such as kn-snp:2.6. The BJT Pali and Sinhala native entry counts do not align perfectly in this extract, so the parallel reader uses a union of segment identifiers and displays explicit missing-edition placeholders where one side has no matching row.

Structure

At this overview stage the local wiki treats the Sutta Nipāta as a single Khuddaka source unit. The BJT raw source preserves these five vaggas:

  1. Uragavagga — opening division, beginning with the Uragasutta
  2. Cūḷavagga — second division
  3. Mahāvagga — third division
  4. Aṭṭhakavagga — fourth division
  5. Pārāyanavagga — final division, including question-and-answer material and concluding verses

Later batches should split this overview into reviewed per-sutta pages or anchors only after the numbering, headings, and citation conventions have been normalized against the raw source.

Textual status

This page is backed by the reviewed raw-only Tipitaka.lk Stage 1 ingest for Sutta Nipāta. The batch extracted 1553 BJT Pali rows and 1562 BJT Sinhala rows from pathnirvana/tipitaka.lk; the row-count mismatch is recorded as a source-alignment fact, not normalized away. Sinhala republication status remains pending verification, so the Sinhala text is exposed locally through the reader but is not treated here as a public republication-ready translation.
