Definition: Hetu-paccaya is the first of the twenty-four paccayas named in the Paṭṭhāna. Its canonical definition states that roots are the root-condition for dhammas associated with those roots and for material form arisen from them (Paṭṭh 2; Paṭṭh 4).
Stub: pilot. This page records the canonical Abhidhamma definition first; fuller comparison with other paccayas belongs to later paccaya-family expansion.
