Summary: Garahadinna is traditionally presented (per Dhammapada-aṭṭhakathā) as a supporter of the Nigaṇṭhas (the Jain ascetics, followers of Nigaṇṭha Nāṭaputta) whose brother Sirigutta was a Buddhist lay follower. After a series of mutual tests, Garahadinna is converted to the Dhamma. The Dhp-a occasions Dhp 58–59 (the lotus-from-refuse verses) with this narrative. The canonical suttas do not name him; the story is commentarial. (commentary — not canonical)
