Summary: Saṅkicca-sāmaṇera is a novice monk in the Dhammapada-aṭṭhakathā commentary (not canonical). The vatthu story tells of a novice who learned from a deity that a forest-dwelling monk would be killed by bandits; he substituted himself, and through his calm the bandits were converted. The Dhp-a narrative attributes Dhp 110 ("better to live one day energetically than to live a hundred years lazily") to his story (Saṅkiccasāmaṇeravatthu — commentary — not canonical).
