Summary: Mahā-Kappina was a king of a region (traditionally Kukkuṭavatī) who went forth and attained arahantship. The Dhammapada-aṭṭhakathā attributes Dhp 79 (Mahākappinattheravatthu — "through joy in the teaching you sleep at ease") to a story involving him (commentary — not canonical). His canonical recognition in AN 1.191 (cited; not yet ingested) is as foremost among those who exhort monks.
